The Excel spreadsheet is sorted by percent of women or minorities (so that women that are also minorities are not double-counted). The spreadsheet may also be sorted by any of its columns - alphabetically by company name, by company size, by board size, and so on.
The Director Diversity Initiative consulted the company's proxy statements issued before September 30, 2009 to determine board composition as of that date. We made decisions on the race and gender of board members based on our examination of photos, Internet searches, and the North Carolina Department of Elections database. Emails were then sent to the companies to verify the information we compiled based on our examination of the proxy statements and other sources. Some companies elected not to verify the data. The UNC School of Law Director Diversity Initiative made every effort to achieve a high degree of accuracy.
